See before photos of this house:

Bathroom and kitchen were totally gutted and remodeled; also flooring and windows were replaced. Changing various on the footprint, we (contractor and I) created a niche in the bathroom just to fit an old chest I found for the new sink cabinet; we also made a wrap-around kitchen counter to create a division between the kitchen and entertainment area and provide considerably more counter space. We added another door where there was once a window so that guests need not enter via the bathroom - That is where the main entrance was!

Client wanted a cozy Ralph Lauren look; therefore the woven banana chairs and fabrics that called out “Ralph”. Warm looking floor tile replaced indoor/outdoor carpeting, woven window shades replaced plastic blinds, and an old pine chest replaced a dilapidated Pullman in the bath.

On a fairly stringent budget, we cut costs with Home Depot assemble-yourself cabinets and 6” blue Dal counter tile. To cut costs, I also decided to recover an existing sofa bed and used 6” Dal white tile in the bathroom shower.

On the flip side, there was careful attention to detail, which created an environment of personality. Sea life cabinet pulls and glass tile accents (with the inexpensive Dal tile) gave huge persona to this guest house. As well, since the wood slat ceiling did not offer room for recessed cans, sea enenemy- looking LV lighting was strung from wall to wall to provide general lighting (see photo).

With a tight budget and timeline, we gave this old boat house a fully new persona.

And yes, we did finish in one month!
